Abstract
In Belgium, new high-voltage power lines projects have raised concerns about the potential health effects of ELF-MF, 50 Hz, particularly among thefarming community. Additionally, some farmers and breeders have reported problems with livestock and crop production – including increased mortality, fertility issues, and reduced productivity – which they associate with infrastructure generating EMF. As only a few studies have been conducted on this topic, limited knowledge and uncertainty remains. Given the complexity of this topic, it is also of interest to explore exposure perception and risk perception. Indeed, when it comes to EMF, perceived risk is as important as the actual risk for risk management. Therefore, we designed a survey to explore exposure and risk perception to ELF-EMF among farmers and breeders in Belgium. This will help us to obtain a first picture of the situation and to make an inventory of the problems faced by the farmers and breeders in Belgium.
